My sister's car listed above is having issues. It throws codes for lean condition, the cat, misfire and injector. It also had a starting problem at times. It also was running kind of rough. I decided to get her a new PCM. When the car would act up, I would simply pull the ECM/PCM to reset it and the car goes back to normal. Based off that I decided to get a new one and have it programmed. Last month the car acted up and the key would get stuck in the ignition at the same time the windows stopped working all together. I replaced the PCM, and the car starts and runs but the key still gets stuck, and windows don't work. I have no clue what can be wrong or what else to look at. The battery was replaced 5 months ago. The charging voltage is in range, it starts and runs with no issues. All fuses are good. I don't know if the new PCM is bad, the chip in key is faulty, the body control module is bad or a mix of multiple things. What do you guys think? FYI, did do the key cycle multiple times. Also, the car was sitting with battery disconnect for a month to prevent it from draining. I also know how to remove the key and turn to off position by that little latch under wheel.

Most likely it is the ignition switch that is causing the problems, you can get just the ignition switch or the ignition switch with new keys and all the wiring.

Would a faulty ignition switch cause a service theft system warning message?

I'll check that out tomorrow. I'm also going to check out the class 2 data bus as well. Another thing, when the scan tool is hooked up you hear a random clicking coming from behind the cluster and above the brake pedal area. This has been going on for a while but just remember. Not sure what that is about but I'll also look into a short in that bus and check the port itself.

I got one of my scans tools back and ran a full scan. The car has lost BCM communication. It doesn't appear when running generic codes. It only shows when running OEM enhanced or gm codes only. I'm going to check out the BCM and the wiring. That probably is the cause of everything.

Hi,

I noticed you haven't been contacted for a few days. Have you been able to make any progress? Also, I wanted to get the BCM pin out for you, but there are two options. By chance do you know if it has a DIM or RIM, RPO number? See pic below.

Let me know if I can help.

Take care,

Joe

I haven't had time to check the BCM yet. I'll try tomorrow and get you the info. I'm pretty sure the BCM is to blame since everything that is still happening screams BCM at this point. Also, the BCM code comes up a current and historical. I think the OEM part number is 10391431. That's all I know offhand.

Image 1 Top left.D101, c325, r56 and a few others are burned up on image. Far center left Image 2 d102, c104 and the chip bottom left is the worst with a few other minor spots. The chip has a bubble and a crack on the top. I'm pretty sure the BCM is bad.

Hi,

I think you are correct. One of the items you mentioned would cause failure. Have you been able to replace it?

Let me know.

Not yet, I wanted to confirm that was the problem before placing the order. Or at the very least have some circumstantial evidence that its the most likely the cause. After pulling it and being able to visibly inspect it. I placed the order and I'm hoping it will come Saturday. I did my best to back track the circuit board and pull the diagram and the areas that are burned up are. They are Class 2 data, windows, door locking system, radio memory outside temp/mpg. That everything that is wrong or the cause of a issues. I'm not sure what that one burned up integrated circuit is for. But I'm assuming it's for the components that are bad. One section that has corrosion and arching if you flip it, it has the same damage on the other side.

The new BCM fixed everything. The only issue now is the traction light is on and the anti-theft lock message on radio. I'm not sure what to do for. There is a lot of conflicting information on how to deal with It. Other than that, it all seems good.

Hi,

We need to reprogram the radio. You will need a scan tool that will communicate with the module.

If you look below, I provided two different procedures based on if you have navigation or not to reprogram it.

As far as the traction light, make sure it is turned on. If it is, I need to know if the ABS light or anything other is lit. The best thing to do would be to scan the can-bus to retrieve diagnostic trouble codes related to traction control.

Let me know if this helps.

Take care,

Joe

I'll try that tomorrow or sometime this week. I'll also look more into the traction light. My only concern now is fixing a ruptured rear brake line. I was getting ready to do a test drive and it blew. Lucky I was still outside my house. I'm happy the main issues are fixed and the car runs great with no real issues. I'm amazed a bad PCM caused a cascade failure and the BCM blow.

Hi,

That's good to hear. When you get the brake hose repaired, hopefully, the ABS light will turn off.

Please feel free to come back anytime in the future.

Take care,

Joe
