The rear wiper motor on the vehicle listed above XLT keeps going bad.
I get a new or rebuilt wiper motor and it works fine for about a month and then stops. I've looked at fuses and relays and all work fine. I do not know where to look next. I don't want to replace it with another only to have it quit working again.

Hi,

That is a tough one to answer. The only thing that can come from the vehicle is excessive voltage. Interestingly, I'm sure that isn't something you use all the time.

Are you getting the same brand of wiper motor each time? Have you tried a different brand? Also, when they fail, do you still have power to them? Is the connector in good condition? If there is a poor connection, it can cause an arcing that produces heat and could lead to failure.

Let me know.

Joe

Yes. Used different brands. I've tried to find wiring diagrams for this and have come up empty handed. All my connectors do not show any signs of arching. My Chilton book is not helping. The rear wiper pump works even with the liftgate ajar.

Also, I can hear power getting to the rear motor or at least a relay when I turn the switch to on, but I cannot find anything about a rear relay. On relays are in the front. Or am I missing something?

Hi,

I found the wiring schematic for the rear wiper. I attached it below for you.

As far as the relays, there are two. Both are located in the under-hood battery junction box. See pic 3 below for the location.

When you look at the wiring schematic, note that I had to cut it in half to make it readable for you. I did overlap them so you can follow from one to the next.

Let me know if this helps.

Take care,

Joe
