I need to know if you get an ignition misfire code for this 01 jeep grand cherokee then do you have to replace the entire ignition coil pack which runs about 100 dollars or can you just replace a single coil? Any help would be appreciated this is my first time ever dealling with these new models and the coil packs

Hello,

When you get a misfire code, it could be due to a spark plug or the coil, it can also be due to the ignition control module. This Jeep also have ignition coil capacitor. Those can also trigger the misfiring.

First you need to see which cylinder is misfiring. Then check the plug for spark. Also you can visually check the spark plug for wear and gap.
The plugs should be gapped at .035 in.

If you have to replace the coil pack, it has to be replace as a complete unit for all six cylinders.

I have attached diagrams for your reference.

Please let me know of any questions.

Thank you.
