My Dad hasn't gotten around to troubleshooting this issue, but the CJ will turn on and idle fine. After pressing the gas, the engine will stay at 1500 RPM, eventually backfire bluish smoke and then die. Any help will be MUCH appreciated! Thanks very much!

See my profile and other CJ 5 and CJ 7 answers I have given.

Assuming you are accurate with your nomenclature.

There may be "Obvious" issues, such as a missing Carburator return spring....or a throttle cable binding in its outer shroud.

I would have to probably attribute your problem to the carburator---choke---choke "high idle" (warm-up steps), linkage binding, or maybe just simple adjustments.

We would have to perform tests to figure out exactly the problem...I may can assist you there also.

I really do not want to hit you with an entire manual of what ifs----for this has already been done by the people at "Chilton" and "Haynes" repair manuals.

I will step by step try to help you find the problem in an orderly--EZ--fashion to avoid me hunting and pecking ruthlessly for days, "Stabbing" at EVERY possiblity and giving a fix for each.

I can send pics of some of this stuff

I need accurate Descriptions or pics to see what we are starting with.
