This website won't allow me to send a private message until I've made 10 responses. However, I've attached a link to the AutoZone website which has removal / installation instructions. I have a Haynes book for the Jeep. The Haynes book is of course more detailed, but the AutoZone link is sufficient to perform the replacement as well. The removal / installation for my Jeep didn't require any special tools (all I used was a " ratchet with 10mm socket). I will say that it took a little patience to release the “quick disconnects" used on the inlet, return and outlet connections for the fuel filter/pressure regulator. The installation was much faster than the removal.

I have a 2001 jeep Cherokee sports. Car would cut off from time to time. Took it to a dealer and dealer said computer was bad. I took the computer off and sent it off for repair and the company stated they tested it and found no problems. Is there such a thing as a intemitten and computer can still be bad. I talk to the people who check the computer out and they stated yes. Stated they only test the computer for abouth 5 min. So I decided to change my crank sensor put a new one on now the truck cranks up for abouth 4 seconds and shuts off also makes a loud whistle noise from time. I am confuse do you think the computer could be trying to reset it self or just a bad computer was firing up good with the old crank sensor. Also tried to put the old one back on the jeep turns over but would not crank. Any suggestion why truck want stay crank

The computer has to be reprogrammed to your car if it was rebuilt. A local pro will have to do that. It may be your anti theft making it do what it is doing now. If it was not rebuilt then try resetting your anti theft. Also as this is a 4.0L check the harness near the rear stud, they can wear through and the wires short out causing a bunch of problems. If they are repair by soldering and shrink tube over them then fixing conduit and taping around it to cure. You might also think o f a clamp to keep it off the stud and a little bit away from it.

I did not get a new computer because when I had it tested the company say the computer is ok. My question is why jeep Cherokee sports will not stay crank up once I put a new crank sensor on. Cranks up for abouth 4 second and shuts back down.

Reread my first reply and check the things I said. That may be the reason for your problem.

My 01 Jeep Cheerokee just recently started having "lulls" in the acceleration. After that started, the car would occasionally not start, but just turn over. When I tried enough times it would start like normal. After that the "lulls" in acceleration would lead to the car just completely stalling when driving. It would usually restart right away, but sometimes will turn over like the starting problem. Only twice out of maybe the 20 times it has stalled when driving has the entire electrical system shut down. The stalling seems to happen more often when I'm driving up hill (I live in the mountains) or accelerating a lot.

Normally I would just say check the basics, such as ignition and fuel, but first Iwould like you to take a look at the mapp sensor, this sensor measures load, and since you say that you have a problem when accelarating as well as climbing through the mountains, it leads me to believe this might be the problem, I would also suggest you check your fuel pressure along with your spark/ignition. I will send you our video links to show you how in case you dont'. And get back to me with your findings, If those things dont solve your problem, I would then check your throttle position sensor as the "tps" shows the engines computer where your foot is on the gas pedal.

Thanks for the info. I don't know much about cars and don't have the tools to do the tests. I'd more like to be informed about the possible problems for when I visit a local mechanic. There is a computer in the car, do you think the problem will show up there or would the mechanic need to go through these tests?

Thanks,
Amanda

The problem was the crank sensor. We originally hooked up a gas pressure gauge to test drive with but when the car stalled without any drop in pressure the mechanic was able to hook up the computer and found the specific error. It would have been a challenge to find had it not stalled right at the shop.
