Hi, I have a 2000 jeep grand cherokee limited 4.7L with 180k on it and just yesterday as I was driving back from the ball drop it stauled on me rite when I hit 40mph so I pulled over and tried to start it up again a few times n I get nothin. So I jus towed back to my house n started it up again the next morning n it started up but with a loud knockin sound in engine n hard shakin, I dnt knw what the problem is but I checked my oil n it was dryed out even tho I jus did an oil change less than 1200 miles ago? So I put more oil to see what happens n still nothn changed! Some say my engine is blowin n one guy said it may be my timing shaft? I jus dnt knw. But if it is im willin to replace the motor but I also wana knw if a 5.7L motor can replace it with no other work done? Because I found a used one for $400.00 which is around the same price range for the 4.7L? Thank you

If there was no oil in it and you just had the oil changed, I would check to see where it leaked from. The people who did the oil change may be responsible for the damages. THere is no way you should have used 6 qts of oil in 1200 miles. Check for evidence of a major leak.

Next, don't even bother with a different engine size. I'm not saying it can't be done, but it isn't worth the effort and will end up costing you much more. Everyting needs replaceds, computer, vacuum harness, wiring harness, sensors and the list goes on and on and on. Stay with a direct fit part and you will be much further ahead.

Let me know about leaks.
