The engine on my 1999 Jeep Cherokee has had the issue of the engine not starting right away when I crank it for about a year now. It takes about 5-10 seconds for then engine to start. I've taken it to get checked, got a new battery, cleaned the cables and it helped for about a month then it went back to having the same issue. Please help.

Have you had the starter checked. That could be it.

See my profile, Imma CJ Feller (got 2 of 'em), I do not know a lot about your rig.

HOWEVER, You made no mention of A "NEW" :

Distributor cap

Rotor Button

Set of plug wires

Spark plugs (You GAP 'EM) Out of the box is usually not correct, I gap to the smaller number (this allows for wear, and they stay within tolerance, over time)

Other stuff which may not be related to your issue,

Fuel filter

There are many other things that should be done on a routine basis.......

I know what its like to be "AFOOT"

I AM ONLY TRYING TO GET YOU GOING, AS FAST AS POSSIBLE, MAYBE EVEN SAVE SOME MONEY!

OR AT LEAST TRY TO STEER YOU TOWARD A FIX, Remember, I am a professinal PLUMBER!

I AM NOT HERE TO "PIZZ YOU OFF"

A lot of folks here don't even get an answer here.

If you are going to investigate/ repair this yourself, you may need a little "MANUAL ASSISTANCE"

Not that I doubt your abilities, But why should I write a book?.....When somebody else already has!...in order...diagrams...it don't forget stuff (like I do!)

If you came back right here and said, "My new manual says I have 4 "U" joints, I have located all 4, I am sorta unclear on checking out their servicability, can you help?"

CJ MEDEVAC checks his posts 3-10 times a day, I am willing to help you, help yourself!.............I can clarify stuff for you, then the Manual will help you----understand me!

But I haven't the time to write you a Vehicle Romance Novel, Teaching you all I have picked up over 46 years.

I can and will try to do all I can, but PLEASE just a LITTLE HELP from your side of the family would be so nice!

A manual would do you wonders, as far as TROUBLESHOOTING and SCHEDULED MAINTENENCE!.......ITS YOURS FOREVER, ITS RIGHT THERE, in your rig, THE NEXT TIME YOU HAVE A PROBLEM.......Might help your "KNIGHT" figger it out, on the side of the road, too!

I got my "Rear Lawn Mechanics License", using one, now I have about 25 of them.

A manual for your specific year and model is available at Autozone, Advance Auto and other parts stores. They cost $25-$30

Covers: Troubleshooting, Scheduled maintenence, Testing, Step X step repairs, Cautions, Terms, Glossery, Stuff you had on your rig, you didn't know.......AND LOTS MORE ! ! !

Don't just use 10 pages of it for your fix now, read thru it, lots of stuff you should be practicing.

Keep it in your rig, in a big ziplock, for an emergency repairs, others who can help you, can reference it!

No more preaching from me!

Let me know your outcome. Go to "reply to question" to respond....Please HELP ME and "US", HELP YOU !

I hunt and peck, so this is slow going for me!

Please reply below (reply to question), Good or Bad, That's about all I get out of this Hobby of mine....Unless you make me look good in "FEEDBACK".......Then I get a "Point" or "Vote" redeemable at "Stonehenge Jeep Parts", over in England somewhere!

Your Turn
