Ticking at start up

I have a 1998 Jaguar XJ8L. It has 90000 miles on it.
When I start the car when cold it makes a ticking noise that will go away when you rev the motor. What could be causing this?

What could be causing this?[/quote:858793c9ff] hello, the noise you hear is from the timing variable valve timging circuts. this should be fixed by a dealer the job is very diificult and should be done at the dealer
