Fuel Gauge Reset

I had a fuel pump replaced on my 1998 Isuzu Rodeo which disabled my fuel gauge. The shop that I brought it to (Firestone) could not reset it because they didn't have the right computer. They told me I needed to go to an Isuzu dealership and have their technicians reset it. When I called them they wanted to charged me $92.00 for it. That seems kind of steep. Is it? I was wondering if I'm stuck bringing it there or does anybody think I may be able to find an authorized technician who might charge less? Better yet, is there a site that can locate authorized Isuzu technicians that are not connected to dealerships? Thanks.

They are correct that the fuel gauge needs to be calibrated and it needs to be done with a scan tool capable of doing this. However, dealers are not the only ones with scan tools that can do this.

Basically, any tool shop that has an equivalent scan tool can perform this function.

I am attaching the info from the manual below on how to do it. Clearly this is using the OEM tool, but the process is going to be the same using other tools.

Unfortunately, we are going to be at the mercy of someone with a scan tool, but I would shop around and see what other options are out there other than the dealer.
