Is it normal for this car's transmission to go at 92,000 miles? When driving from a red light it feels like the engine loses power when I hit the gas. Then boom, it stops like someone pulled the parking brake. No check engine light or anything. It kept happening until the car was too dangerous to drive. Literally abrupt violent stops. Got it towed and the machine said there was nothing wrong. It happened when the mechanic drove it though and he automatically said transmission. It never really slipped before and drove fine until it did that.

How long any automotive transmission lasts all depends on how it was driven and maintained. I have seen transmissions destroyed in 20,000 miles because the driver thought it was a race car, I have also seen transmissions that are generally thought of as "low mileage junk" run well into the 200,000 mile range because they got regular fluid changes and were not abused.

When was that transmission last serviced? Not sure what the failure would be, abrupt stops sounds like it could be in the differential area, a broken gear tooth would be the best guess.
