The original instrument cluster comes with a 40-pin connector. I have another cluster that fits, but its socket is 32-pin only. Is there any way to make it work through rewiring?

Hello, we can look through the wiring diagrams and see how much the wiring has changed. Is there a part number on the back of the one you want to install so there is a way to find the correct diagrams for that cluster? The Tachometer is the only difference I see. And what sub model is this, for the engine computer (ECM) I'm seeing XRS or non XRS. Looks like the XRS has an Air pump motor, probably for some type of air injection system. I'm just wondering because I want to see if that Tachometer signal is just an input into the cluster and it doesn't go anywhere else that its needed.
I do see the 40-pin connector as well as a 16 pin for Traction control warning lamps, day time running lamp, and another pin for a lighting control, not that these are as important, but the part number for the other cluster is unless you know what year vehicle it came out of.

Thank you very much for your detailed answer. I really appreciate it.
I have attached the part number that I found on the new cluster.
And here is the car's VIN: JTDBW23E660113440

Okay, thank you. Are you in the U.S? This is what I found with that part number; the picture is correct. It's from a 2005 Toyota Corolla 4wd. But I'm not seeing any wiring diagrams for that year with a 32pin connector. I will keep looking for more info. Are the connector sizes the same, just a different number of pins, or are the connector sizes different altogether?
This Toyota Fielder was a model that looks to be sold in Japan. So, I will check some other locations for a wiring diagram.
And is your engine actually a 1.3liter? And is it a diesel engine? I'm having a very difficult time find a 30-pin cluster diagram.
One other thing I was wondering, what is the issue with the cluster in the vehicle now? Is there something specific that's not working that we could maybe try to get working again?

That's a good point! I actually found out the connector itself is of a different size! This means no chance it's going to work, right?
I have attached a photo of the actual 40-pin connector of the original cluster. Its part number is:
83800-12D11
157530-0630

Well, the issue really is that we don't know which pin on the cluster you want to install is for. I could not find a single 30 pin cluster for any 2005 Corolla. Even just doing a random parts search. So, the best thing to do is find a used cluster that is for your vehicle. Most Instrument Clusters have data network pins so they can communicate with other modules on the network for various reasons. And we don't want to mess with that too much. Are you not in the US? And what's going on with the current Instrument Cluster?
I haven't come across any type of programming for after a replacement of the cluster, on newer vehicles there is programming and transferring data over on all kinds of modules. But when it comes to the Cluster being changed over, at least here in the US the mileage has to be exactly what the old cluster had stored in it. In some cases, the mileage data is stored in a different module, such as the body control module, but I don't see anything like that so far for a 2006 Corolla, I will post it if I do
On pin 38 I do see a data signal into the cluster for the outside (ambient) temperature sensor.

Thank you very much for helping out.
I'm not based in the US.
There is nothing wrong with my original cluster. I just saw this one online and liked it. The seller said it's going to work, and I trusted him! :(
I think I will search for another one that works with my vehicle.

Oh, okay. Just make sure it's the same part number on the back of your cluster. They do sell ones online with modified LEDs and digital displays. Just have to search around. But definitely verify the numbers first. Things differ from country to country as well when it comes to design and operation.
