where is the air flow meter located, and what does it look like? Its a 90 corolla station wogon with 4AFE engine

If you are talking about a MAF (mass Air Flow) sensor, they use a MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) on this model.
It is on the firewall behind the intake manifold and has a vacuum line attached to it and the intake manifold.
The IAC (idle air control) is on the throttle body assy.
