FYI: Base Model, 4 cyl. W/o Turbo. FWD, 84,276 mi. On body, 4,692 mi. On engine (so the seller said)

Background: I purchased this car 2 days ago so I dont know much about it. The above is all I know.

Problem: While accelerating, from both a stop and while driving, the engine is hesitating. It feels like it is not get enough gas or oxygen or something, it is not idleing right, it is choking and bogging down (and cutting off). It only worsens when pressing the gas pedal. When it cuts off I have to turn it off then restart it. Sometimes it starts sometimes not. I have replaced plugs, wires, distributer cap and fuel and air filter. I have no check engine light, the exaust has a flutter which is consistant with whatever the engine issue is.

When I first drove the car I noticed it missing. I just thought it was the plugs so I bought it. But even after doing that I am still having so I changed the fuel filter.

My question is could this problem be a result of my crank or cam shaft sensor?

THANKS

Hi:
It could be one of the sensors that you mentioned, but without a check engine light, anything I say would be a guess. However, the noise you hear from the exhaust makes me question if the catylatic converter is broken and loose inside, blocking pressure from the engine. I would start there first. Also, you may want to check fuel pump pressure.

Let me know what you find.
