I’ve put on a new fuel pump, new fuel filter, new fuel pressure regulator, and a new starter solenoid and my truck still won’t start! Can someone please help?

Hi,

If it isn't starting, chances are it is a fuel or ignition issue. The first thing I suggest is to check for spark and fuel. I realize you already replaced the fuel pump. However, it may not be working properly.

Try this and let me know what happens. See if it starts using starting fluid and then stalls. If it does, then we know it is a fuel-related issue. If it doesn't, then it's likely ignition.

Here are a couple of links to help. The first discusses the most common causes of a crank no start condition.

Again, if it doesn't start with starting fluid, check for spark to the plugs. Here is a link that shows how to do it:

Do that and let me know what you find or if you have other questions.

Take care and God Bless,

Joe

Thank you for your reply! It started while spraying starter fluid in the throttle body then shut off. I dropped the tank to make sure the fuel pump and the fuel filter was working properly and it was! Now I will try to do the coil test and see if there is a miscommunication within the plugs. I will get back with you soon as this process is complete! God Bless!

Hi,

No need to check for spark. If it started with starting fluid, spark is good. Fuel is the issue.

Do me a favor, if you haven't already, make sure fuel pressure is within the manufacturer's specs at the fuel rail. Here is a link that shows how it's done:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-fuel-system-pressure-and-regulator

Here is the specification information:

2000 GMC Truck K 1500 Truck 4WD V8-5.3L VIN T
Fuel Pump Pressure
Vehicle Powertrain Management Fuel Delivery and Air Induction Fuel Pump Fuel Pressure Specifications Pressure, Vacuum and Temperature Fuel Pump Pressure
FUEL PUMP PRESSURE

Fuel Pressure

Key On Engine Off 55 - 62 psi

I realize you replaced the pump and other components, but if the pressure is too low, it won't run.

If you find the pressure is good, then we need to check for an injector pulse at the fuel injectors. Something is preventing the fuel from getting into the engine. Here is a link that explains how to check the injectors:

Don't worry about the ignition spark at this point. I know it's working based on your test.

Let me know what you find or if you have other questions.

Take care,
Joe
