Overtime the many of the components get worn and dirty with can impact the fuel mileage. Fuel mileage can also suffer if there is any fault code that causes the engine to run rich.
If it has not been done, a good first step would be to perform a tune up.
A typical tune will include changing out the spark plugs, replacing air filter, fuel filter (if equipped inline), clean the throttle body, clean mass air flow sensor. Also check for any trouble codes and take appropriate action.
