Horn does not work

On the steering wheel with the horn ring removed, when testing for power the flat post on top that should be the ground, is not, the metal ring is the ground. When I connect between the contact and the ring I have power, between the contact and the flat post, nothing. What would cause this?

I am not exactly following where you are testing for power and where you are not getting it. I think because of the terms that we are using.

With the steering wheel removed you should see your turn signal switch which has two post on the passenger side of the column. If you don't have two and only have one post then you have the wrong turn signal switch. 1964 1/2 is the only one with a signal post. 1965 and 66 have two posts.

These are the terminals for the horn. What happen when you put a jumper wire between the two posts?

When you jump these together, the horn should go off. Does that happen? Take a look at the pictures for what I am referring too. Let me know and we can go from there. Thanks

Good afternoon,

The wire in the steering wheel that goes around the ring should be hot.

The other wire is a ground. When that is grounded by pushing the horn button, the horn should go off.

Did you test for power to the horn with the button depressed?

KASEKENNY1, I have the steering wheel still on and am checking the contacts and the ring. Also think the horns are bad since they did not work when checked direct to battery. I mostly wanted to be sure that the electric at the wheel was not wired wrong so as not to short new horns.
