I have a Honda Prelude with modified low suspensions. I was driving at night so I ran over a pot hole and something from the bottom of my car got hit hard. I was wondering if my oil pan got damaged, wouldn't the oil leak out fast? If so, wouldn't that mean my car would stop moving? I made it home 5 miles later with no problem. But IF my oil pan was damaged, would my car had still been able to go? Or did I only hear my frame struck the pot hole.

Hi eastoakland_student,

It depends on the damage. Hitting the oil pan does not mean it would leak as it can withstand impact up to a certain point.

If oil is missing, the engine would seize and if the leak is slow enough, you might be able to see the engine oil indicator lighting up.

It would be best to have a visual check on the oil sump for possible leaks and verify the impact eare to see if any damage had occurred.
