Engine problems

My car began overheating and ticking like I had a bad piston. When I popped the hood, I noticed that the sparkplug wires were blown away from the block and there was oil all over them. What would cause this and is it repairable?

Some confusion in what you said but I take it that a couple of the wire were disconnected from the plugs and there was oil on the wires and in the spark plug holes, correct? If so, the wires were easily lifted off even by air flow. The oil in the plug holes is the problem. You will need to take off the valve cover, replace the valve cover gasket most likely and then replace the grommets on the plug holes. These are what stop the oil from getting in to the holes. Dry up, gently, the wires and if there is any engine misfire you may need to replace the wires.
