Hello! My car is a 2000 Honda CRV with 160,000 miles on it. It is a great car but I've been having 1 problem with it. That is when I start the car warm (up to 1/2 hour after the last time it was run until warm) it starts fine, it turns over after about 4-5 cranks and the RPMs shoot up to 1300, but after that they drop to almost stalling for a few seconds and then even out at 500 RPMs the base RPM for that particular car. Other than that strange problem the car runs great. It runs smooth when idling and at speed, there are no strange noises like clicking coming from the engine, and it starts up quickly in both warm and cold weather. The warm start problem is the only evident problem with the car. I have my suspicions that it has to do with an electrical problem such as the main relay which is a common problem with older Hondas, what do you think?

If the idle shoots up like that when it does start, it may be an issue with the idle speed control valve hanging open when the car is shut off. This can make them crank longer and rev up too high when it does start. Sometimes you can get away with cleaning them out to get the carbon/reversion build-up off them, but other times they need replacing
