The car is making a clacking noise that is consistent with the rpms. He found that is was coming from cylinder four, and took out the oil filter and found silver metal shavings(very small) inside. He said that the connecting rod bearing are bad, and that he recommended getting another engine. Its very costly, because even a engine from a salvaged car is over $1500.
My question is, can I pull the oil pan to check the crankshaft for damage? How hard is it to replace the bearings, and how do I do that? I am very limited on budget, but I would really like to save this car. What do you suggest. Can I just replace the bearings? And how do I flush out the engine? Thanks for your help. I would make a donation, but I dont have a bank account. This site is very helpful. Thank you so much.
