I have a 2001 Honda Civic Coupe. I installed a head unit on this car. I started the car and backed up about two feet until I hear a spark and the dash lights went out. I shut off the car. Then all I smell throughout the car is a burn pc board/ silicone scent. I take out the dashboard and realize that the pc board shorted some areas.
I thought this had something to do with the head unit installation, but all the wires match up perfectly to the harness. I could not find anything wrong. I pull each and every fuse out and every fuse was fine.
Pretty much my illumination lights for the dashboard do not work anymore. The rear taillights tend to work at times when the parking light is on. The brake light works fine, but the parking lights tend to come and go.
What does work in the dashboard is the coolant temp, fuel, speedometer, tachometer. For some reason the highbeam light stays on no matter what, even when the highbeam is not on. When I use the turn signal either left or right, the dashboard shows both left and right turnsignals blinking simultaneously just like a hazard light does. My turn signals do work correctly and so does the harard button. The AC light acts awkward also. I is supposed to turn on and off when a fan setting is set. Although sometimes the light remains on even if I press the button to turn it on or off.
Obviously I have an electrical problem. Any help on how to diagnose this problem would be helpful.

Hi there,

My first thoughts are that the fused circuit board is causing all these additional problems, as for the reason the circuit board failed in the first place, that is the main concern, I would be re checking all the electrical connections around the engine and make sure that nothing has been crushed or pinched in the re assembly job, this is easily done as there is not a lot of room to work. Check this out first.
