I had just left the driveway with my headlights on and within 1 minute, both headlights went out. The parking lights were still illuminated.

Note: I had smelled an electrical burning 3 days prior.

Any ideas? I will check the fuses but the burning smell makes me think it's beyond that.

Check the relay for the lights. That could have burned out. It should be under the hood and probably in the underhood fuse box.

I checked the fuses and the relay under the hood. No problems. Then I took the switch out of the steering colomn. The wire connector that plugs into the switch was fried. I went to the dealer to purchase a replacement switch and a new plug but found that they only sell the wiring harness for the entire dashboard. Just then, a mechanic walked up to the counter and told me that this problem had been recalled and could be fixed for free! My lucky day.
