My son has a Honda Civic Ex 1.6L engine that needs to be replaced. I was wandering if a vtec engine from the same make of car be able to work in his without replacing any parts. If anyone can answer this I would appreciate any help.

thank you!

Hi there,

First thoughts are no, I think you will find that the ECU is programed differently, Vacuum layouts will differ, and the killer will be that the main engine loom plug, although it may look the same, will not plug in and if by chance it will, you only need one wire transposed for a different system and you will be in deep strife. Honda are the past masters of mass confusion when it comes to minor changes on there cars, keep it standard, keep it simple, and this will keep your hand out of your back pocket.
