My girlfriend has a 95 honda civic. We found the engine needed to be replaced. I took the car in and a used engine was installed. Within a month the engine had died again and we found that the replacement engine was a bad engine. The shop that repaired it has another engine coming in but they want to charge us again for the labor of swapping the engines. I complained to the owner and he said that he would be willing to charge only for what he would have to pay his mechanics to do the job, which is about 200 instead of 600, the full price of labor. Is this fair or should they eat the total cost of labor?

HI there,

Thank you for the donation,

Normally when you have a second hand item fitted there is no warranty provided by the installer, if he supplied the second hand item and it failed they may be a warranty from his supplier on the part but labour is paid for by the customer, if the failure was due to something done by the installation he would be liable to warrant the work if the failure was component based he has no obligation to re install an engine FOC.
