I was driving then I felt the car kind of slip a gear then I saw the oil light come one and then it died. At that time the gear shifter froze I was unable to move it out of drive. I did everything I was taught turning the steering wheel to lock it. Was stepping on brakes even pumped them. I let it sit or a couple of mins was able to put into netrual the car never started agian. What was funny is the battery was completly dead when I went back 3 hours later to have it towed.

Engine cranks without starting?
No the engine does not even make that crank sounds. It sounds like a well I have never heard it before swishing wire in the air like if someone had a piece of wire that they were swinging in air

Sparks available?
Yes we have spark, fuel the starter is brand new we just chnaged it when this happened. The fly wheel moves but wont crank engine over

Fuel pressure is available?
Yes we are good there

Check Engine Light indicating?
No it is not on

Without the engine cranking, how would you know that there are sparks at the plugs?

Seems the engine has seized or the starter is not working.

You are not helping as I am not able to understand the problerm. I need to know the present situation in order to help.

Unless you are able to provide a better description of the problem, I would not be able to help.

When I turn over the key it makes a noise like a wire being swung in the air. My engine doesnt make that noise like your car battery is dead.
About the spark I am not sure how my husband knows that there is spark. But he did say that the flywheel moves when the key is turned
engine being seized what is that? Would my car make a noise when the was being turned? The starter is a brand new one was just changed when this happened.

I am not trying to be diffulct how can I explain it more clearer for you? I was trying to give you both past and current. I amnot sure wat else I can tell you. I would love the help! :)

If the engine is turning very fast as if there is no compression and no indication that it is going to start, I believe the timing belt has gone bad.

Remove the distributor cap and crank the engine. If the rotor does not turn, the timing belt is bad.

You would need a compression tester for the test. Some parts outlets provides loan services for such items.

Did you check if there is sufficient coolant in the radiator?

Before performing the testings, you can try this.

Remove the spark plugs.
Pump some engie oil into the cylinders with an oil can.
Crank the engine for a few seconds without the spark plugs installed.
Reinstall spark plugs and try starting.

You mentioned checking the timing belt, were the belt synchronisation checked?

Ok I went to a place to check about the compression tester. They said it would not work because the car is not cranking over. I explained to them the problem with my car and they hought I was crazy. Yes the coolant levels are good.

The engine is not cranking over would I be able to this with the spark plugs?

One moment you were saying the flywheel is tuning over and next the engine is not cranking.

You are confusing me.

If the engine is not cranking, then you need to check:

1. Battery condition.
2. Starter motor.
3. Ignition switch.

Flywheel would not turn if the engine is not cranking and all the test previously posted would not work.

Just wondering how you were able to determine the the timing belt is good and rotor is turning when the engine cannot be cranked.

I am going on what my husband is telling me so I am just the messanger

when the car is started you dont hear the engine you hear a noise of "a wire being swung in the air" the pistions are NOT moving we have power to everything. We have fuel. The flywheel is moving.

Do you see why I am here my husband just rebuilt his motor in his truck so he does know what he is doing but this has him stummped and about 2 other mechanics

1. Battery condition. GOOD
2. Starter motor. GOOD
3. Ignition switch. GOOD

If the flywheel is moving but the pistons are not, then either you have a broken crankshaft or the flywheel is bad or not bolted.

Since engine has just been rebuilt, the likelyhood of the crankshaft breaking is not high.

Yours is an automatic transmission, the flywheel drive gears are on the torque converter. Check the torque converter to drive plate bolts. They can be checked from under the vehicle by removing the dust shield.

My husband replaced the torque converter drive plate and bolts yes it was broken. BUT now the engine is not cranking. The starter is brand-new just replaced it before the drive plate. My husband said it seems like everything is too heavy for the starter. Before we had movement in the torque converter and now nothing
