yesterday morning i noticed a noise coming from under my hood, i returned home and shut off the ignition and the noise persisted. I moved the ignition 2 clicks up and the engine started without being cranked. I assumed it was the starter and waited about an hour. The noise remained untill I reved the engine and hasnt returned. I had been noticing that sometimes i would attempt to start it and the starter wouldnt engage but i heard what sounded like a fan, thats the best description of the sound that i can think of, and also it cranks slowly at times... could this be the selenoid?

Yours sounds like the solenoid is not disengaging itself. If as you say the car started that easily it sounds like the solenoid is stuck. Pull the starter and have a look. The solenoid is sticking and sometimes will return or disengage.
