Broken Camshaft

I have a 2000 Honda Accord EX with 85,000 miles. I recently took it to a repair shop for a "tune-up". The did a diagnostic evaluation and told me it needed carbon removal from throttle body, new water-pump, replacement of camshaft seals (part of regular maintenance). All this was done as well as a "complete synthetic liquid exchange". Less than one week later, my car died. I had it towed to the same shop. I am told my camshaft is broken near the end of the shaft. They can find no evidence that the repair was faulty. Could this be a faulty repair or is just bad luck?

Authorized Honda repair shop? I doubt it and I am not trying to imply that the Honda repair shops are great. Some have great mechanics and some don't. But the same can be true of other shops as well. My one comment is that in replacing the water pump they are then dealing with the timing belt and the tension on the camshaft. Just my two cents worth. Another comment is did the camshaft break or did the timing belt go. If the belt went and they did not replace it when going in to do the water pump they were not very good mechanics. The belt should be replaced when you go in to do the water pump. If the timing belt broke you will be looking for an entire head for the engine. Find out if the belt broke.
