The price should be around $2,000 inclusive of labor and taxes.

Prices ranges region to region so it is better to shop around even if it is the dealer that you are going to but you should check this guide out to confirm the failure?

Started in just reverse. Reverse would slip then I would shift to neutral and back into reverse and it would work again for a few feet. Then the other day was out playing in the snow being hard on the car. Was on my way back home then some of the higher drive gears were slipping but would work in a lower gear fine. Could this be a shift solennoid? If so which one? Possibly the one that controls the clutches maybe?

I've checked the engine codes the only one is for the o2 sensor. The fluid is at the correct level. However the fluid is not really red as it should be. Looks pretty clear looking.

O2 code would not affect the transmisison. If the fluids are clear looking, either it is bad or not the recommended type.

Without any trouble codes, it should not be a solenoid problem. Most likely to be a pressure leakage somewhere or a fault with the valve body, which would require the trans to be disassembled to check.

Update on my car. I changed the tranmission fluid which looked a lil clear at first. But after being hard on the transmission in the snow acutally turned a dark brown-black and had a burnt smell. I just drained the fluid and replaced it with some import transmission fluid and now my car is running fine. So if anyone else is having transmission problems try changing out your fluid in these cars as they seem to not like old fluid. Also when I pulled the drain plug it did have a small amout of metal shavings on the magnetic tip and burnt fluid. Works fine now in all gears. If I have any further problems I will leave an update. Thanks for everyones help.

My engine light on and I pulled out code P0730 ( incorrect gear ratio). The problem is when I make fully right turn, and start step on accelerator, the RPM gauge will jump up to 40000 and I have to waint until RPM gauge going down to 500 and the gear start kick in and the car will moving again, this is only happen when slow speed. So far the car still runing with highway speed, only happen to slow speed and right turn,

My question is the transmission damaged? If the transmission damaged why I could still driving the car highway speed and local.

I did check all solenoid, and has been pass Ohms and working fine which no code show excepte the P0730.

I did not check oil pressure test yet.

So please help. Thanks

Hi lovehonda,

Here are the diagnostic procedures.

DTC P0730/41: SHIFT CONTROL SYSTEM
NOTE:
DO NOT perform this DTC test until all other DTCs have been repaired first.

1. Using scan tool, retrieve A/T freeze data. Clear fault codes and road test vehicle under same conditions freeze data was recorded. If fault code returns, go to next step. If fault code does not return, problem is intermittent, check transaxle and PCM connections.

2. Road test vehicle at over 12 MPH for more than 30 seconds in 2nd, 3rd and 4th gear. Using scan tool, check for any other DTCs. If any other DTCs are present, repair those DTCs first, then recheck for DTC P0730/41. If no other DTCs are present, go to next step.

3. Test clutch pressure. If clutch pressure is within specification, go to next step. If clutch pressure is not within specification, repair hydraulic system as necessary.

4. Replace lock-up control solenoid valve/shift control solenoid valve "A" assembly and shift control solenoid valves "B" and "C". Turn ignition off and clear codes. Road test vehicle at over 12 MPH for more than 30 seconds in 2nd, 3rd and 4th gear. Recheck DTCs. If P0730/41 returns, replace transaxle. If P0730/41 does not return, system is okay.

I have a 1998 honda accord v6 and my transmission slips only in cold weather in the morning and when the car warms up it runs perfect. It only slips in first gear like it revs up high then it grabs and jerks real hard. The car also jerks real hard when I come to a stop but when the car warms up its smooth. I just had the tranny rebuild and it is doing the same thing.

Just wondering what else could it be and what other components would affect the transmission?

Also what does a transmission solenoid do?

Thank you for the donation.

Intermittent erratic shifting are usually due to solenoids and/or transmission fluid.

Was the transmission fluid used of the correct specifications?

Do you have any trouble codes?

The solenoids are for controlling the flow of fluids and is used as a switch to close or open fluid passages. If they do not operate correctly, shifting irregularities would occur.

Well the transmission was recently rebuilt and the fluid is at the correct level and i don't have any codes. I only have bad shifting when cold.

Could you happen to help me with the location of the solenoids on my honda so i could possible check them out. I think i have located most of the solenoids, I am having problems locating the shift solenoid, it is solenoid #7 in the picture.

There seems to be quite a few solenoids, solenoids A&B, a shift solenoid and a linear solenoid. Which one would be the problem?

Hope this diagram is clear enough for you to understand.

It can be any of the solenoids but the most likely would be the AT clutch pressure control solenoid valve A/B assy.

I would first like to thank you for all of your help.

I have located all the solenoids now but I was wondering how do you test to see if a solenoid is bad or going bad? So I can determine which one I would need to change to fix my morning slipping problem.

My transmission just began to slip and the check engine light turned on. Prior to this, the transmission was shifting smooth with no issues. Employee at Autozone did a computer diagnostic on the check engine light and said it came up as a transmission malfunction and that it is most likely a sensor. Is this true, and if so, which sensors should I concern myself with? Thank you in advance.

You have to get a free scan done at a tranny shop to see if there's any fault codes in the tranny. Hope this helps buddy

My car sometimes slips into second gear, it doesn't happen all of the time, mostly when its hot outside and it drives for an extended period of time. This problem only occurs when shifting into second, the other gears work fine. Is there a possibility for a quick fix without having to change the whole transmission?

I have a 1998 Honda Accord EX with a 3.0 liter v6 and automatic transmission. The transmission is begining to slip and I am searching for a salvage yard transmission. Therefore, I need to know from what years of Accord I can get the transmission from and it will bolt up, connectors plug in, and work correctly. I've searched car-parts. Com and it only lists 1998 and 1999 V6 Accords as having interchangable transmissions. Other places have stated that 1998 through 2002 V6 Accords auto transmission will work. Are you able to tell me which years of Accords I can pull the transmission from to replace the one from my 98?

The year is not the main thing. The transmission code would ensure you have the right trans.

For 1998 the trans model should be B7XA and can be found in models up to 2002.
