1997 Honda Accord Muffler problem

I have a 1997 Honda Accord EX 2.2L 2156 VETEC, 4 dr.
It needs a muffler, only problem a stock replacement muffler- tailpipe is about 7" to long plus when you match the bolt holes up to secure the muffler it turns the muffler on it's side, Help!

Hi Robert Conwell. Welcome to the forum. When the mounting bracket is wrong, you either have the wrong part, or less likely, the bracket was welded in the wrong position by the manufacturer. If possible, take your old muffler to the parts store so they can match it up to the new one.

It is common for tail pipes to be too long, (as long as it is separate and not welded to your new muffler). It will fit multiple applications. Usually there is a sticker at the spot where it must be cut to fit the specific vehicle.

If your new muffler and tail pipe came welded together, and two things are wrong, like you mentioned, that is proof the part is for a different application. The salesperson either looked up the wrong part number, grabbed the wrong part from the shelf, or there is a mistake in the book.
