Hi I was searching the web for a good repair/advice site and I found this site to be very interesting and helpful. I hope you guys can help me. Thanks.

I have a canadian 1997 honda accord lx/ex (i am not sure) 2.2 4cyl front 2 wheel drive with manual transmission. It has 214,000km on it. Timing belt, 3 accessory belts, rear O2 sensor and water pump has just been changed last year (2006).

problems:
my engine light is off in some days but it is often on most of the time. I read in some forums that it could be the gas cap but I checked and every thing was fine.

my car makes a rattling noise in the exhaust near the cat converter. When I drive the noise goes away, but when i'm idling the noise comes back. Also, my exhaust has this deep sound coming out at the same place where the rattling noise is coming. The deep sound is like if you have racing mufflers on.

could this be the cause of my engine light to turn on and off?

plus my passenger side high beam doesn't work. I have changed the bulbs but it still doesn't light up. My DRL warning lights are on but when I turn my headlights on it goes off. Could this be an electrical problem and not a mere bulb replacement?

thanks.

My reply: Have the code or codes pulled from the computer. That will give us a clue to know where to look for the source of the problem.

My reply: Yes it could be but pull the codes. The noise is a loose heat shield on the exhaust system. This is a problem with the Hondas and possibly other cars as well. Check the shields (there are several) and find a way to tighten them up. The deep throat sound could be a loose connection at the exhaust connection just off or at the exhaust manifold. It could be the gasket is bad at the connection of the exhaust to the manifold or it could be a crack in the exhaust manifold itself. Take the little cover off the manifold and inspect the exhaust and exhaust manifold.

My reply: Yes this sounds electrical and not bulb related.
