Electrical problem
1989 Honda Accord 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive 227K miles

The 'charge' light came on while driving, it at first was intermittant & seemed rpm related.
If you let the car sit it would charge initially until rpm's were increased.
I tried to remove the alternator, but after unbolting it could not get it past the bottom of the firewall.
So I cannot even get it out to test it.
Please tell me the engine does not need to come out to get at it.
What route would a professional mechanic take to remove/reinstall it.
Thanks, Jeff

FWIW, you must remove the driver's side half shaft to BARELY get the alternator out from underneath.
The problem was the bat (white wire) post on the alt.
Caution: It tested good out of the vehicle, but when installed & under load & vibration it was intermitant due to internal issues.
When I pushed on it (terminal on alternator) with a stick it would charge until you removed the stick & revved it.
