Car shuts off when fuel tank down to half a tank

Did you verify power to the pump when you had it apart? The power comes down th line from the inertia switch to the switching valve to the pump.

Did you verify the issue with a gauge when it happened?

When you replaced the pump, did you look inside the tank at the baffles? A broken baffle in the tank will allow fuel slosh and that would cause it to lose pressure.
