My a/c compressor bearing burned out and, naturally, the clutch assembly is pretty fragged. I haven't noticed any leaking from the vehicle but I did inspect underneath the a/c system and found residue of leakage. The pulley will not turn at all with the engine turned off and makes a grinding sound when I start the engine. Do I need to replace my entire a/c system or is there a more cost effective way to get this fixed?

by the description, your compressor is toast. you'll need to replace it, the orfice tube and dryer in order for the parts store to warranty the compressor. replace the o-rings too and try flushing out the condenser and lines to remove any metal fragments from the system. blow compressed air through the lines and condenser to dry them out.
