My 2003 gmc sierra wont start. The gear indicator on the stearing column doesnt register what gear it is in there for the truck doesnt recognize what gear it is in so it wont turn over. Could that be the reason my truck wont start and if so how do I fix it?

My 2003 gmc sierra wont start. Sounds like you talking about the starter won't crank the engine over.

If so short out the starter solenoid if it cranks the engine over could be the park and neutral position switch and ignition switch.

At the fuse box my mechanic tested the starter by bypassing something and the starter turned over. He said that it was something in tranny not reading what gear its in

When I try to start the truck it blows the fuse labeled crank. Once I replace it starts but once I turn off the truck and try to restart it blows again
