speedometer problems

I have a 1982 GMC Truck and have recently replaced the speedometer cable but still it does not work. Can you tell me what else it might be. Thanks. Leo O. Martinez Jr.

It could be the gear the the cable fits into on the trans, or it could be the gear inside the trans. Might even be the speedo head. Unhook the cable from the speedo and drive the car, see if the cable is turning. If it steady turns, and you can't stop it with your fingers, it's the speedo head.
