I have a 94 Chevy Lumina Sedan 200,000 miles. My brakes were going, now I have no brakes and there is fluid on the ground by the one brake that was the worst. Will new brake pads fix this problem or is it my serious then that?

A fluid leak is all it takes to make the [b:019cf3cb30]entire braking system useless. [/b:019cf3cb30]

You need to have the brake line, hose, fitting, caliper, or wheel cylinder replaced or rebuilt. Then the system must be bled to purge any unwanted air.

If your car won't start you call a tow truck If it won't stop you call an ambulance or worse.
Sound just like my dad. It still is good advice.

If you are not mechanically able to attempt this type of repair here is a good link to find someone that is.

Suggested Repair

Do not drive the car. A fluid leak can disable the entire brake system, so pads alone will not fix it. Replace or rebuild the leaking brake line, hose, fitting, caliper, or wheel cylinder, then bleed the system to remove air. Have a professional do the repair if you are not equipped for it.

Conversation Summary

The owner of a 1994 Chevy Lumina with 200,000 miles reports that the brakes failed completely and fluid is leaking near the worst wheel, and asks whether new pads will fix it. The expert says not to drive the vehicle because a leak can make the whole braking system useless. The leaking line, hose, fitting, caliper, or wheel cylinder must be replaced or rebuilt, and the system must then be bled.
