Auto won't start. No power, yet battery charged.
8 AM started the Camaro on the driveway (Hadn't been driven in a couple of months). It started ok after a little drain on the battery. I drove it a few feet into the garage.
About 1:30 PM I attempted to start it. Hooked battery charger across the battery to give it a boost. Car wouldn't start. Choke was stuck. Opened the carb. Car attempted to start but wouldn't. Acted as if the battery was run down. I put the battery charger on charge and tried to start the engine. The engine tried to start but wouldn't.
Tried to start it again. The light under the hood went out. I suspect I had shorted out something. I checked my battery charger hookup connections. They were ok. Like a dummy, I put the battery back in the 12-volt boost position I tried to start the car again. I got a spark at the positive battery terminal.
With the ignition switch off I attempted charge the battery. The battery tester needle pinged over past the boost range section and off the scale.
I disconnected the battery cables and tested the no-load voltage. 10 volts.
I connected the charger to the disconnected battery cables. Pinged the charger in the charge position.
I suspect I blew the alternator.
What could be wrong? What did I short? Where do I start troubleshooting?
What components can I bypass to see where the fault might be?
