Howdy folks!
I've had a problem starting my Jimmy since last winter.

One morning, the engine would crank but have trouble starting. I could use to crank it enough times to get it to finally start, but as time went on, the amount of cranks increased and my battery couldn't sustain it.

I can hear the fuel pump click on. When I test the pressure, it is at 59 psi. For Central Sequential Electronic Fuel Injection system, that's perfect.

When I replaced the fuel filter to verify that it wasn't an issue, it started up on the second crank. Weird.

If I start it up by spraying fuel down the air intake plenum, it will run for however long I like.

If I turn it off, I can usually get one or two more start-ups again without any fuss, but more then a few tries, it just wont turn on anymore, cranks until the battery dies.

Additional Info:
I've had two instances of my acceleration cutting out. First time was on the interstate passing. I could hit the gas and I would get no response. After about 15 seconds or so, response from the pedal would return and it would be fine.
Second time was going about 20 miles an hour, hit the gas a bit and it lost power, same situation as before.

There's no slipping when I apply acceleration when it idles.

No codes coming up with ODB II.

I've replaced:
02 sensor
temperature sensor
catalytic converter last year
fuel filter twice in 5 months (Its fine)
cam shaft sensor
cap and rotor
all spark plugs. (It gets spark, white)

Hi Serpreme
Question do you use fuel with ethanol higher than 10%. Reason I ask there is a service bulliten on your year vehicle. The fuel pump pulsator is deteriated by ethanol and can leak. The fix is replacement with part # 25175836 Viton hose. This is TSB 66-63-09 April 1997.

I'm going to go home now and test the fuel pressure, see how it is when its running. That's the only way I can figure to diagnose this issue without dropping the fuel tank.

My father replaced the fuel regulator and now we get weird readings.

For some reason, now that my father has the vehicle up at his garage, when he does the fuel pressure test, it shows at 42 psi with the key on and when it starts it goes UP 10 or so PSI to 52. Where as before it would
be at a rock solid 59 psi and drop a couple PSI.

I'm not sure whats going on, but he found a fuel pump for 210$ and he is going to be replacing it asap.
Can anyone think of why it might be different now.

But if we were getting a incorrect reading before, this may all be explained with a bad fuel pump.
