Difficult steering at slow speeds?

Hello,
We have a 2002 GMC Envoy 4wd 50,000 miles. We just noticed the steering wheel is hard to turn when you are at a stop or just starting to drive. What is this? We are in Belgium now on a military assignment, so averages of how big of a deal this is would be great.

I would check the fluid level and next look at the belt and see if maybe it's slipping any. Low fluid level would cause this, also. Those are first things to check. Worst case- you could have your power steering pump or gearbox going out on you. But check the little things first. Good luck :D
