I need a picture diagram for the Relay Box that will show me exactly what fuse goes where. I am trying to fix someone else's mistakes and they removed all fuses and I can not get them to match up correctly. Thanks!

Electrical problem
1997 Volkswagen Jetta 4 cyl Manual

I HAVE JUST GOTTEN MY IGNITION SWITCH REPLACED. RIGHT AFTER I GOT MY CAR FROM THE SHOP, MY WINDOW GO DOWN BY ITSELF, MY RADIO STAYS ON, HAVE TO HOLD POWER DOWN TO TURN OFF, MY DOOR DINGER STAYS ON EVEN WHEN I PULL THE KEY. I HAD SMOKE COMING FROM THE STEERING WHEEL AND FROM MY FUSE BOX, NOW I HAVE BURNT WIRES FROM FUSE BOX. WOULD IT BE FROM THE NEW IGNITION SWITCH? SINCE I GOT IT BACK I HAD SO MANY PROBLEMS WITH WINDOWS, FUSES BURNING OUT, AND NOW BURNING WIRES.

Hi there,

What was the original cause for the switch to be replaced? I feel that you should see the workshop that replaced the switch and demand an explanation as to what is going on, regardless of what they say you're facing a hefty repair bill as the smoke you report is sign's of a burnt loom. The installer may have crimped a loom causing a short.

I have a 2 liter 1996 jetta, the electronic control unit for the radiator cooling fan located on the left side shock tower under the coolant reservoir is bellowing smoke. It has two fuse ports and a fusible link, I replaced the fuses to the correct ones and it continued to smoke, the new fuses are not blown, im not sure if the unit just has moisture in it, or the unit its self is bad. Anyone with information on this it would be greatly appreciated.

If the smoke smells electrical. Replace it.

Actually, replace it no matter if it is just water / moisture being evaporated. Shouldn't be smoking period.

Coolant can drip onto / into it from the reservoir, when the reservoir leaks / vents, which will affect the control unit.

The little box uses a 20 fuse but smoke is coming out of it, I noticed it has two different plugins on the bottom, I wanted to know what its used for.

Can you tell me the colors of the wires. I'm looking on a schematic and nothing is listed in that location. Make sure it is a 20 amp fuse because all I see is a 10 amp.

There's only one fuse / relay box. What's not working to make you
think you are missing fuses?

Fuse/relay box is above the "dead pedal" or above & to the left of the
clutch pedal?

The cover should indicate what fuse is for what.

I've looked and I don't have a cover. I am missing #8 relay fuse. Also the parking lights do not work and my blinker lights only work if I turn on my high beams.

Fuse #8 (left to right 1 to 22) is for left tail light & side marker.
It's supposed to be a 10amp fuse.

I'll see if I can find a complete list/diagram to post.
