It's very likely that you cannot get the original design because of the issues GM had in those years. They had redesigned the wiring around 1999 and the connectors they used were very well known for failing. They would corrode a small amount, and that resistance then created heat. The heat then caused the connectors to lose some tension and that lead to a worse connection and more heat. It wasn't uncommon to remove the tank to access the pump and find the connector melted and burnt from the heat. That lead to at least 3 revisions in the connectors and the replacement pumps normally came with a replacement pigtail and the crimp connectors and instructions that you used to replace the damaged connector because they didn't want you to burn up the car or the new pump due to the poor connections. At least that car can be accessed through the trunk and the harness lets you get to it easily. Then you splice the two pump power wires and the two sending unit wires.
As long as you use the correct wire crimp pliers, and the heat shrink connectors the replacement is much better.
