This can be done but it is not advisable with the tank still in the vehicle. There are many videos out there for people doing this on Grand Cherokees but I did not find any on your vehicle. The reason is, I have heard of 3 people who did this and had issues. One had a fire as they had vapor leak that they didn't know about and the sparks caused a fireball. The other 2 cut through needed components because they could not see what was just under the floor panel.
I have found that it is not that big of a deal to empty the tank and lower it with a floor jack to replace the pump.

Below is the location of the pump in the tank if you would like to try and cut the hole. Just make sure you are not using a reciprocating saw as the blade will surely cut through something like the harness. This means you need to use a cut off wheel or something that will give a shallow cut but that means sparks so be careful.
