This car with TBI injectors will intermittently start and go into a no start stage where it gets no fuel. I followed a test from the Haynes Manuel and put 12v to terminal G of the ALDL and the pump runs but when I turn on the ignition switch the pump isn’t running. I checked all fuses and they look good. Years ago I think my previous mechanic replaced the ignition switch with one without the security chip so I’m wondering if it’s related to that but I really don’t know. There were also issues in the past with it not starting due to a bad sensor. Not sure what to do next. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hello,

Okay, so when you turn your vehicle's ignition key the "start" what does your vehicle do? Does the engine crank and doesn't start or does it do nothing at all?

Thanks,
Alex

It cranks okay, but doesn’t fire up because it isn’t getting fuel. I can spray in some starter fluid and it will fire right up for a second. When I just turn the key to the on position I don’t hear the fuel pump come on.

Hello again,

Okay, just wanted to clarify, no start/no fuel. Well let's start by systematically working the fuel pump circuit until we find the open/high resistance, shall we. In the diagrams down below I have included wiring diagrams for your vehicle's fuel pump circuit for reference. The last diagram has the location of the fuel pump fuse. Please check this first and get back to us with what you are able to find out. Here is a link, if needed, explaining how to do it:
