Hey guys I am very confused with my 1989 camaro iroc z it has a 305 tpi and it will just shut off completely after driving a couple miles and not start again. Just cranks. After sitting about 15-20 min it will start but not for long. At times when I turn the key I can hear the fuel pump run but still wont fire. Replaced fuel pump about 2,000 miles ago if that helps. Any ideas you might have would be great.

oh and thank you for the advice you gave me on my truck you nailed it right on the head for a proper repair :)

Glad to hear the brake switch was your problem on the truck! That was one of my first posts here on the forums. :)

Okay, now we are having a problem with stalling and no-start condition on an Iroc? Are there any engine codes being stored? If not, and since you recently replaced the fuel pump, I am thinking the fault is related to the fuel system, specifically the new fuel pump. It is not uncommon for these to fail out of the box. Especially if not properly installed and primed. Did you replace your fuel filter when you did the pump? If not, and it was clogged, it may have caused the new pump premature wear.

Use a fuel pressure tester and check the fuel pressure under load (Parking Break, Wheel Chucks) and ease on the accelerator. If you can't reproduce the stall condition you may need to get creative and strap the pressure tester to the windshield with duct tape and watch it while taking it for a drive.

I didnt replace the fuel filter with the pump just the little filter on the the pump itself. That has crossed my mind. I was also wondering if it could possibly be the coil shorting when it ghets warm?

This is weird b/c my 91z with 305tpi is doing the exact same thing as we speak. Ive been without it now for 1 week. I replaced in order fuel filter, pump, ignition module, map sensor and today fuel pressure regulator and it still stalls after driving it for few minutes and it take 10-15 minutes untill I can start it again. If you are getting spark to the plugs I dont think its a coil problem, and if I spray starter fluid into the throttle body the car will start so I think its a fuel problem. Man I need some help with this its very fustrating. Is it possible the fuel pump relay could be bad. When the car wont restart I can hear the relays ticking.

It sounds weird but if our cars are low on oil would it send a signal to the fuel pump relay to shut down

Did you find out what is going on with your car? Was it the fuel injectors? MY 1989 Iroc z28 is doing the exact same thing. The car has only 40,000 miles on its 350 TPI engine and just had its fuel pump and fuel filter replaced. Any ideas
