Ford Windstar bad relay?

A few days ago on my way home from work, a thumping sound started in my dash above my radio. Sounded like a loud heartbeat. It persisted for a few hours then stopped as quickly as it started. Then I started for work next morning turning on the heater only to get cold air. Is it a bad relay? If so can I fix it on my own, if not how much will it cost to repair? Thanks.

It might sound funny but I would check for a mouse. Chewing on a wire could have done something. And the thumping noise is that their is a cat chaseing the mouse out of thier. Seriously it is a relay and they vari. In prices.
