1998 Plymouth Voyager 3L starting problem

I tried to start the beast this morning and all I got was a clicking sound. I put the neighbours charger on, and it didn't register. Dead battery? I went and bought a new one, and it still makes the same sound. Is it the alternator? I can't afford to keep replacing parts, and I can't afford to get a mechanic to do it for $1000.00.
Please help. Thanks, dimwitted in Ontario.

Well at this point and time I wouldnt say its the alternator for the fact that it didnt even turn over on charger. Check ur battery cables from battery to starter and all ground pionts. Make sure ever thing is connected good and clean. Hey its worth a try and its free. Please send payment to ME ? Write back & update. Thnks jess s.
