Engine Mechanical problem
1990 Ford Tempo 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 181Tkm miles

I have a noisy running engine. The noise becomes intense after the engine runs for a while. I have the alternator replaced and its belt but it did not fix the problem. It sound like a hissing belt noise, which one is it? How do I fix it? I still drive the car everyday to work but it is just nosiy. Except for the annoying, embarrasssing noise, the car runs very well. I drive the car everyday for 170 kilometers and it runs normally.
Pleas help me fix the problem.

If you are sure it's a belt noise, take a small amount of water and pour it on one belt at a time. When the noise stops, that is the belt with the problem. Most likely it's glazed.

170k a day?Wow. Whatever it is, it should get obvious very soon. You have 3 belts and 2 belt tension pulleys on that car.1 is on small water pump belt and 1 is on main serpentine belt. These can be noisy and also your power steering pump can be noisy. If you have air conditioning you also have a free wheeling clutch bearing on air compressor and that can be noisy.I have really never heard anyone describe a noise as hissy?Do you mean like when you let air out of a tire? You can use a tube like a vacuum cleaner wand to listen to each thing to try and pinpoint origin of sound. Good luck
