I have a 2000 Ford Taurus with 203,000 miles on the 3.0L vulkan flex fuel OHV engine. What levels of PM do you believe in or recommend? I have been thinking of doing the timming chain with guides and the water pump. I do the normal things oil & filter @ 3k, antifreeze and flushing @60k, trans fluid and filter @60k. Other than staying on top of miscellaneous repairs what do you recommend? thanks for the advise. Excellent web site!

Suggested Repair

Replace the spark plugs and ignition wires if due, and use a fuel additive to help keep the injectors clean. Continue the existing oil, coolant, and transmission fluid service intervals.

Conversation Summary

The owner of a 2000 Ford Taurus with a 3.0L Vulcan flex-fuel engine and 203,000 miles asked what preventive maintenance to add beyond oil changes every 3,000 miles, coolant flushes at 60,000 miles, and transmission fluid and filter service at 60,000 miles. The owner was considering a timing chain with guides and a water pump. The expert recommended spark plugs, plug wires, and fuel additives for the injectors, and said the owner was already doing more maintenance than most.
