1996 Ford Taurus with 140000 miles. There is a howling noise coming from below the car. Noise starts around 20 mph and does not change pitch even at speed put into neutral. Does not vary with engine speed. I can feel a slight vibration in the steering wheel, very slight more like a buzz.

Sounds a bit like a wheel bearing try getting it up to speed then turning the wheel quickly right and left, see if the noise quets down any if yes wich ever way you turn to silence it replace the opposit bearing!

Merlin2021 - thanks for the help, the noise stops in a quick left turn but not a right turn so I replaced the right wheel bearing but the howling continues. The noise seams to be more concentrated on the drivers side. I think I'll replace the left side and see what happens.

Replaced the left wheel bearing and the noise is gone. So a quick left turn that silenced the howling noise meant to replace the same side bearing as I see it. Thanks for response that verified what I thought it was.
