The car won't start unless the gas peddle is used. It will not idle without pressure on the gas peddle. In the past there were a couple of instances where I had to use the gas peddle to start it. My local garage has changed a sensor that is in the $300+ dollar range without much success. His computer tells him that the car thinks it is at an altitude of 5,000 feet. The car has been there for nearly 2 weeks.

Should be the mass air flow sensor then, try unplugging it to see if it runs, if not it's either a wiring problem in that cucuit, or the PCM needs a reflash. Or replace.
